Two new mental health programs available to Tasmanian veterans and their partners
Open Arms is offering two new programs in Tasmania to enhance access to mental health services for veterans and their families.
The first is the evidence-based Stress Resilience and Functioning (SRF) Program aimed at current and former serving ADF personnel who are experiencing chronic stress, distress, mental health challenges and the impacts of trauma.
The 8-week program focusses on improving stress management, mood regulation, interpersonal communication and relationship skills.
Participants will be required to attend all 8 sessions and will have the option of additional one-on-one Opens Arms support with an individual counsellor or a lived experienced peer.
The program is currently offered in Hobart, Launceston and Burnie with further locations currently being considered.
The program was developed by Tasmanian-based veteran and Opens Arms Senior Psychiatric Adviser, Dr Jon Lane, who experienced his own mental health challenges after undertaking active overseas duty.
The second program, Building Strong Partnerships for Families, focusses on the impacts of military service on families, and the specific needs of partners, has been designed to help build stronger and more resilient partnerships.
Partners of current and former serving ADF personnel are eligible to apply.
